The Audacity of Nope
An epic (and safe) post-pandemic summer depends on your ability to make “no” your favorite word.
Lab leak theories are about the past. Today, the country is aching to be outside. The very environments from which we were scared off — gyms, restaurants, live mega concerts — are now the most coveted. But with freedom comes great responsibility. In order for us to go hard in the paint this summer and avoid September’s injured reserve list, the word “no” must be used more than “yes.”
Your self-preservation has to reign supreme over nearly every person, place and thingy. That includes your mother, inconsiderate CEO, fear of therapy, social media addiction, fast food diet, processed hair, Crypto-pushing cousin, friends using outside as an escape from the fact that they don’t love themselves: all of which can be served a hot and healthy no.
Trust me — peer pressure will be high. It’s on you to ensure that when it is up, you’re not the one who ends up stuck. Over the next several months, stronger discernment and constitution will be your BFFs. Say no to offerings that conflict with larger goals or impede your progress. You don’t have to attend every damn happy hour your coworkers propose. Especially, while you’re living intentionally (i.e. on a rigid schedule). Cocktails (even free ones) shouldn’t…
